NHL: Kings Stun Devils with 2 Late Goals

Drew Doughty's power play goal with 27.3 remaining in the third shocked the Devils last night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

For the second game in a row, the Devils gave up a lead in the third, only this time it ended in a loss. Kings netminder and U.S. Olympian Jonathan Quick steadied the ship after a questionable goal, and the Kings rallied from a 2-1 deficit with two goals in the last 1:42 of the third to shock the reeling Devils in front of a sold-out crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

The Devils looked great early, and jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period over the Kings, but for the second game in a row couldn’t put the finishing touches on the game. Here’s a few of my favorites from the night, including several of Kings/Team USA goaltender Jonathan Quick who was great down the stretch after surrendering the first two.

New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur (30) makes a save during the first period, but gave up a soft one to allow the Kings to tie the game late.

Future Team USA teammates Zach Parise and Jonathan Quick met up, and Quick got the best of Parise this time.

New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur (30) makes a save on Los Angeles Kings center Oscar Moller (9) during the third period at the Prudential Center. The Kings won 3-2.

Thought this was an interesting one, Devils center Travis Zajac caught a shot in front of goaltender Jonathan Quick and dropped the puck for a change in the shot angle. Quick got that one anyway…

Here’s a few of Quick to wrap things up, while he is in all likelihood Team USA’s 3rd goaltender right now, he’s young (24yo) and really good, and probably the future of Team USA in goal. It’s the first time I’ve covered him in person, and I came away impressed.
