BWAA Photo Award!

My image of Lucien Bute celebrating his knockout win over Librado Andrade at the Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, CAN captured 3rd place in the feature category of the BWAA photo contest. Photo Copyright: Ed Mulholland/HBO
Just a bit of shameless self-promotion as I’ve been awarded a 3rd place in the feature photo category of the
Boxing Writer’s Association of America photo contest. The photo, shown above, features
Lucien Bute celebrating his victory over
Librado Andrade.
This contest is a tough one to decide which photo to enter because you are only allowed one shot in the action category, and one in feature. Interestingly I felt my action submission was the stronger of the shots submitted, but it did not place. My feature shot did however.

My action submission of Tony Thompson nailing Chazz Witherspoon with a right hand during their heavyweight bout at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom in Atlantic City was in my opinion the stronger of my submissions, but apparently didn't stand up to the competition, failing to place. I’ve been entering this contest since 2005, and have managed to place at least one image in a category each year, including two first place entries. Also, congratulations are in order for my colleague at
HBO,
Will Hart, who has won for the second time, and placed in each category this year.
Here is a link to the story about all the winner’s. The ceremony takes place Friday June 4th in New York City, however it looks like I may miss it, as I have a shot at shooting my first Stanley Cup Final!
