Had a chance to work with a larger than life athlete today, spending the day with NCAA wrestling champion–turned WWE Champion–turned UFC Champion Brock Lesnar, who took over the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT. Despite his brash, sometimes loudmouthed TV persona, Lesnar was easy going, polite to a fault, and one of the nicest athletes I’ve had the chance to work with.
The day started with an early Sportscenter taping, with Brock Lesnar facing off with ESPN’s Hannah Storm for a segment.
Here’s a bird’s eye view of the Sportscenter studios during the interview.
Next up was Lesnar’s visit to the set of ESPN’s First Take and a sit down with Jay Crawford. Fun interview to listen in on while shooting, and Lesnar got the chance to hype his upcoming book “Death Clutch”.
The funniest moment of the day took place back on the Sportscenter set, when ESPN’s John Buccigross squared off with Brock shooting a lead-in, the two faced off, ripped their suit jackets off, and then Bucci ran off the set scared, funny stuff…
Gotta give Brock the edge in that battle, but who knows, maybe Bucci could have played hockey enforcer and pulled the shirt over his head. Last up was the set of MMA Live and an interview with host Jon Anik.
All in all a good day, fun shoot, and Lesnar was truly a good guy to work with, personable and funny, and I’m guessing because of his background with the WWE can break right into character for TV. Away from the camera, he was humble and easygoing.
Special thanks to ESPN Talent Producer Lisa Stokes, who kept the day running incredibly smooth, and my job easy.
