I shot the much anticipated HBO Boxing after Dark card this past Saturday night in Carson, CA, and to say it lived up to expectations would be an understatement. In the main event, Nonito Donaire was impressive stopping Toshiaki Nishioka in the 10th round, but the real story was the co-feature between Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios and Mike Alvarado, which in all likelihood gave us 2012’s Fight of the Year.

Flew into Mexico City on Thanksgiving Day to cover the upcoming Saul Alvarez-Kermit Cintron fight for HBO. Yesterday was just a travel day, but today the work began as I headed to Plaza de Toros, the world’s largest bullring, to cover the weigh-in for the fight. The fight will also take place in the Plaza de Toros bullring, and it gave me a chance to bust out my new Canon 8-15mm lens for a test.

Shot the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr–Peter Manfredo fight for HBO at the Reliant Arena in Houston, TX last night, and it was quite a fight while it lasted. Whatever you think about Chavez Jr’s talent, one thing can be said, he makes for entertaining action fights, and that’s why Mexican fans have flocked to him. On this night in Houston, he didn’t disappoint, stopping a game Manfredo in the fifth round.

If an opponent comes into the ring looking only to survive, it can be virtually impossible to knock him out, or look good in any manner. Budding superstar Nonito Donaire learned that the hard way tonight en route to a less than scintillating 12 round unanimous decision over Omar Narvaez at the Wamu Theater at Madision Square Garden.
It’s also virtually impossible to make a compelling image when one fighter has his hands glued to his head the entire night, I was once again reminded of that.

On February 19, 2011, Nonito Donaire landed a single shot separating Fernando Montiel from his senses and sent the boxing world reeling with talk of the next great superstar, a successor to Manny Pacquiao. Fast forward 8 months later and Donaire is finally returning to the ring after promotional issues that forced a couple of fight cancellations. He’ll enter the ring tonight looking to capitalize on what he started in February, and see if he can once again capture boxing’s imagination. I shot the weigh-in yesterday afternoon for HBO, and both Donaire and opponent Narvaez look ready to go.

Little late on the update after a few issues in Guadalajara (lost iPhone and such), but all in all a pretty good trip to Mexico, and a good night for “Canelo” Alvarez and Adrien Broner. Who were both pretty impressive.

Well my recent traveling road show found me in Los Angeles this weekend covering Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, in his first title bout against WBC Middleweight Champion Sebastian Zbik at the Staples Center. Back in 1984, his legendary father Julio Cesar Chavez captured his first title in Los Angeles, and his son took his first step towards building his own story, capturing the WBC Middleweight belt in a close, hard fought 12 round majority decision.

Spent the weekend in Las Vegas covering the much anticipated bout between Fernando Montiel and Nonito Donaire for HBO. In what was expected to be a bout full of fireworks, came to a sudden and decisive end in the second round courtesy of a Donaire left hook.

HBO’s Boxing After Dark had a sensational show at the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight. The two televised bouts were both highly competitive, entertaining affairs, perfect for the BAD series, featuring Yuriorkis Gamboa unifying the featherweight championship, and a lightweight battle between prospects Brandon Rios and Anthony Peterson.

Devon Alexander and Andriy Kotelnik both made weight for their upcoming HBO Boxing After Dark bout which will take place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO. Catch all the action tomorrow night on HBO, and for more of my work from the weigh-in check out HBO’s Website.
